This summer, planeloads of North Americans flew with exuberance to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and all those delicious Mediterranean isles. We ignored emails, soaked up the sun, drank the wine, and finally got around to\u00a0laissez-faire<\/em>\u00a0dinners after 10 o\u2019clock at night. Instead of diving back into work with renewed vigor when we got home, we decided to savor the vacay afterglow.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s right. After years of admiring\u00a0la dolce vita<\/em>\u00a0from afar \u2013 and wishing we could \u201cwork to live\u201d rather than \u201clive to work\u201d \u2013 North Americans seem to be making the collective decision to partake in the sweet life.<\/p>\n

New specialty sailings with\u00a0AmaWaterways<\/em>\u00a0include golf, ancestry, Latin Touch sailings for Spanish speakers, and a Soulful Epicurean Experience.\u00a0Uniworld\u00a0<\/em>is offering 10-day mystery cruises. Norwegian is hosting a \u201cRock N Wrestling Rager at Sea.\u201d Holland America has a\u00a0knitting<\/em>\u00a0cruise, as well as a Soul Train cruise featuring big name R&B legends.<\/p>\n

\"Mayflower<\/a><\/p>\n

2<\/span>\u00a0 | \u00a0We\u2019re Traveling More for Wellness<\/h3>\n

Alexa, put \u201cmitochondrial training\u201d on my to-do list. According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness tourism is expected to \u201cgrow rapidly in the coming years.\u201d So, it\u2019s no surprise that modern resorts and cruise ships are offering exotic, physician-guided medi-spa experiences that go beyond Botox to include: tongue and pulse analysis, full moon gong baths, IV lounges, lymph boosts, and (yup) mitochondria stimulating CellGyms.<\/p>\n

\"Al-'Ula<\/a><\/p>\n

3<\/span>\u00a0 | \u00a0We\u2019re Opening Up to the World<\/h3>\n

Set in the AlUla region of Saudi Arabia, Hegra, the kingdom\u2019s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, is attracting quite a bit of attention. Boasting more than 100 ancient Nabataean tombs carved into monolithic sandstones, visitors are also enjoying a labyrinthian old town, zip lines, a via ferrata climbing walkway, helicopter tours, cycling, and mind-blowing stargazing.<\/p>\n

Wadi AlFann, AlUla\u2019s new contemporary art destination, will soon be the permanent home of five site-specific art installations from: Manal Aldowayan, Agnes Denes, Michael Heizer, Ahmed Mater, and James Turrell.<\/p>\n

New all-inclusive \u201cvacay and chill\u201d resort openings are coming in hot. Early favorites include\u00a0Hilton<\/em>Tulum Riviera Maya, Villa La Valencia Beach Resort & Spa, Margaritaville St. Somewhere Resort Punta Coco,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Dreams Cozumel Cape Resort & Spa.\u00a0<\/em>With new direct routes from the U.S. to Cape Town, Tel Aviv, and Tahiti, Delta Vacations are helping us power through our bucket lists. Up north, Viking has kicked off its inaugural season sailing the Great Lakes with\u00a0Viking Octantis\u00ae<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Viking Polaris\u00ae.<\/em><\/p>\n

Global tour operator Collette offers a 22-day\u00a0Australia & New Zealand Uncovered<\/em>\u00a0tour. Their 27-day\u00a0Complete South Pacific<\/em>\u00a0tour has an optional 3-day extension in Fiji. Aboard Oceania Cruises, \u201cthe single most in-demand voyage\u201d is apparently their 35-day circumnavigation of Australia.<\/p>\n

6<\/span>\u00a0 | \u00a0We\u2019re Eyeing New Ports of Call<\/h3>\n

A major renovation of the port in Nassau, Bahamas, is expected to be completed in early 2023. Carnival Cruise Line\u2019s new Grand Bahama Cruise Port should be ready for us in late 2024. Disney\u2019s Lighthouse Point is expected to welcome ships in 2024 as well. Also coming soon: Port Coral, a brand new \u201cfully Belizean-owned\u201d port, and Royal Caribbean\u2019s new Perfect Day at Lelepa, on a small island in Vanuatu.<\/p>\n

\"Trollfjord<\/a><\/p>\n

7<\/span>\u00a0 | \u00a0We\u2019re Embracing the Chill Factor<\/h3>\n

Club Med opened four new all-inclusive resorts in 2021 in the Seychelles, Lijiang, Que\u0301bec, and La Rosie\u0300re. Seventeen more are in the works, including\u00a0Club Med Utah<\/em>, a five-star, year-round extravaganza \u2014 their first new U.S. resort in over 20 years. Up along the Norwegian coast, Hurtigruten Norway\u2019s\u00a0Svalbard Express<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0North Cape Express<\/em>\u00a0cruises begin in June 2023, one month prior to the company\u2019s 130-year anniversary.<\/p>\n
