Route
Day 1: Montreal - Charlottetown
You can fly to Charlottetown from Montreal. You can rent a car at the airport. Historic downtown Charlottetown has many historic buildings. Take the opportunity to visit the downtown area.
Within a few hundred meters of The Great George Hotel, you will find a number of restaurants and pubs. Around the corner on Queen Street you will also find many fine restaurants. Terre Rouge and Local 343 are all excellent choices for dinner.
Day 2: Charlottetown - Borden-Carleton - West Point
The town of Borden-Carleton is a good place to grab something to eat. You can visit the Handpie Company and enjoy some delicious sweet and savoury dishes.
Then continue on to West Point. This place has beautiful beaches. You can visit the lighthouse museum. The site is also an excellent place to stay overnight. There is a restaurant with a nice view near the lighthouse called The Catch Kitchen and Bar.
Day 3: West Point - Kensington
You will travel along the coast from West Point to North Cape, which is located at the northern tip of Prince Edward Island. North Cape is home to Canada’s National Wind Energy Laboratory and a trail along the coast allows you to walk around and see some of the wind turbines. There is also an interpretive centre with an aquarium to explore in the same vicinity.
You can head to O’Leary to visit the Canadian Potato Museum. This museum is dedicated to the delicious potato. You will see potato-related farm machinery and artifacts.
Continue south to Victoria and explore this beautiful village. After your walk you can dine at the Lobster Barn Pub & Eatery. They offer delicious seafood and pub food right on the quay. They also have Lobster Rolls.
Day 4: Kensington - Georgetown
After spending a night at The Home Place Inn, explore the New London area. You can stop at the village near French River.
Then stop at the Cape Tryon Lighthouse. The view is simply breathtaking and you will enjoy the coastal path that runs along the cliffs and allows for several different views. If you like outdoor adventure, you can go kayaking at Rustico Bay. Another option is to go for a walk, as it is well worth exploring.
In the afternoon, drive to the other side of Prince Edward Island and explore the Confederation Trail and scenic lookouts. One of the best ways to explore the area is by bike or on foot, from Summerside to North Cape. Scenic lookouts also dot the route at West Cape, Urbaineville, Seacow Pond and Grand River.
You will be staying in Georgetown, a small fishing village with a charming bed and breakfast called Georgetown Historic Inn.
Day 5: Georgetown - Charlottetown
In the morning you will visit the Prince Edward Island National Park. You will be enchanted by this area and can spend half a day here. From the scenic walking trail to the massive and unique floating boardwalk to the fabulous beaches, it’s a beautiful place. The beauty is impressive, and the setting is peaceful.
In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to stroll through the MacDonald Memorial Gardens, a particularly beautiful place to spend time.
In the town of Georgetown, there are some great photos to be taken of the fishermen’s huts. Point Prim Lighthouse, built in 1845, is the first and oldest lighthouse on Prince Edward Island. A large park surrounds the lighthouse and the shoreline is beautiful, so you can spend a few hours there.
You can eat at the Point Prim Chowder House. The outdoor seating by the water and the food is fantastic and you will have a memorable experience.
Day 6: Charlottetown
On Prince Edward Island, it’s all about farm fresh food. To learn more about farm-fresh food on the island and to see how the ingredients are used, you can visit The Table Culinary Studio. This is a great experience that gives you the opportunity to learn where and how local food is grown and harvested, while discovering how to blend these locally sourced ingredients into a delicious meal.
In the afternoon you can head out on a lobster fishing trip with Top Notch Charters. Your afternoon excursion includes a lobster dinner with local accompaniments. This is a unique experience aboard a real working lobster boat.
Day 7: Charlottetown - Montreal
The Great George has bikes available, so take one to explore the fantastic city of Charlottetown. Ride down the boardwalk to Victoria Park, where the view of the harbour is simply fantastic.
You can also kayak or paddle-board along the gentle banks of the historic Hillsborough River, where you’ll see Victoria Park’s beautiful coastline and historic homes.
After your visit to Charlottetown, you will go to the airport to drop off your rental car and fly back to Montreal.
