Take the rest of the day to stroll along the Malecon and eat at a good table in the evening. There is no shortage of them in Lima.
Day 3 - Lima
You will spend part of the day with a Peruvian family. First, you will accompany them to the market to get the ingredients for the dishes you will later cook with them in their home. On the menu: ceviche, fried yucca, cuy and chicharrones.
Day 4 - Cusco
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, at the top of the world! After your transfer to the hotel in the Sacred Valley and a hearty lunch, you will start your mountain bike exploration along the Urubamba River, through corn fields and ancient haciendas. Take the rest of the day to acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 5 - Chinchero and Machu Qolca
By minibus, you will visit the community of Cuper Bajo and discover the local textile industry. Afterwards, you will go to the village of Chinchero, where you will enjoy panoramic views of the crystalline lakes and cultivated fields. Here you will find some of the most beautiful handicrafts and weavings in the country. In Machu Qolca you will see the archaeological center dedicated to the Inca culture. To end your day, you can cycle down a long and winding dirt road to Huayllabamba, in the sacred valley of the Incas. The descent will be easy and will be done through large cultivated areas to the hotel.
Day 6 - Huaypo
The area of the Sacred Valley is populated by farms, huge gardens and small villages. You will drive to the Moray Experimental Farming Centre, an archaeological site of circular shape with concentric circles arranged at different heights, which allowed the Incas to test different seeds at different altitudes. You will finish your morning at the colonial town of Maras, known for its amazing pink salt mines. You will be able to return to the hotel by bicycle, if you wish.
Day 7 - Exploration of Machu Pichu
Today you will visit the jewel that crowns this journey. A day-long exploration is planned to visit the famous historical sanctuary of Machu Picchu, one of the most impressive architectural feats of the Inca civilization, and one of the wonders of the world. You will go to the Ollantaytambo train station, to take a train that will take you to the city of Aguas Calientes. From there, you will take a bus that will drop you off at the entrance of the sanctuary. Enjoy the impressive view from the Puerta del Sol. You will visit the most famous places of Machu Picchu, such as the Sacred Plaza, the watchtower, among many others.
Day 8 - Sacred Valley
If you wish, you can venture by bike into the Sacred Valley along a mountain path with panoramic views of Cusco and the valley at your feet. You will pass through potato plantations and bare plains, the “pampas”, where shepherds keep their flocks. Return to the hotel at the end of the afternoon.
Day 9 - Sacred Valley
It’s time to take leave of the historical past and the breathtaking natural beauty of this Peruvian landscape. You can choose a half-day exploration or have a coffee, relax and enjoy the serenity.
