Explore this vast territory and relive the encounter with the First Peoples. Discover the great moments of colonization, then leave, from city to village, celebrate with their cultural habits, their typical meals, their beers, their music and their festivals. Explore the splendid landscapes of Quebec by travelling on the roads of the Laurentians, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Outaouais, combining nature, adventure, history, heritage and gastronomy.

Route

Day 1 - Montreal to Duhamel

Departure from Montreal and direction Outaouais.

On the road to Duhamel, possibility to make a stop in Labonté de la Pomme to visit the orchard and have lunch.

Day 2 - Duhamel at Omega Park

Omega Park is a unique park because the animals are in liberty in their natural spaces.

Day 3 and 4 - Omega Park to Gatineau

After visiting Omega Park, take the road towards Gatineau. It is a city on the French side of the Ottawa River.

You spend 2 nights at the British Hotel in the Aylmer district. You can enjoy visiting the port and sunset from the Aylmer marina on the Ottawa River.

The next day, visit Gatineau and Ottawa on the other side of the river, which can be reached on foot or by boat.

Day 5 - Bryson to Ville-Marie

You leave the Outaouais and take the road to Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue is the most authentic and unspoiled region of this trip in Western Quebec on the Explorers’ Route.

In Ville-Marie you will sleep in one of the Suites of the Chocolate Factory with a breathtaking view of the magnificent Lake Temiscamingue. The rooms are right above Chocolats Martine which transforms chocolate and sells local products.

In the surroundings of Ville-Marie, possibility to taste the artisanal beers from Barbe Broue Pub, eat cheese from the cheese factory Le Fromage au Village and discover the edible flowers at the Red Eden. You can also pick blueberries.

You also have the opportunity to attend a Pow-Wow. A Pow-Wow is an annual gathering of a First Nations community. This is the Algonquin community.

Day 6 - Ville-Marie to Rouyn-Noranda

The history of the city of Rouyn-Noranda is recent. It is closely linked to the discovery of gold, copper and zinc deposits by prospectors in the 1920s.

Possibility to hike to the summit of Mont Chaudron.

Access is free.

Day 7 - Rouyn-Noranda to Aiguebelle National Park

Visit the Aiguebelle National Park which is a beautiful place in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

You will sleep in a rustic cabin by a lake inside the park.

Near the Aiguebelle National Park, you can visit the Refuge Pageau. Refuge Pageau recovers injured or orphaned animals and takes care of them before releasing them back into the wild. You can see foxes, bears, raccoons and other animals.

Day 8 - Aiguebelle National Park to Ferme-Neuve

After the night at Aiguebelle National Park, take the road to Ferme-Neuve and the Devil’s Mountain Regional Park.

The Devil’s Mountain Regional Park is a great place to hike.

In the vicinity of the regional park, you can visit the honey factory of Anicet. Tasting maple syrup and honey made with wild flowers. Possibility to taste dishes prepared with fresh seasonal products.

You will sleep in a dome in Windigo village with a magnificent view of the lake.

Day 9 - Ferme-Neuve to Poisson Blanc Regional Park

The last stop of this road trip from western Quebec on the Explorers Route is the Poisson Blanc Regional Park which is known for its aquatic activities.

You will have the opportunity to spend a night on one of the deserted islands in the middle of the Poisson Blanc lake.
